JOY is a painting I carried in my heart long before I was able to put it onto canvas.

The vision first came to me in 2025, and I tried more than once to begin painting it. But every time, I stopped. I could see the vision, but only in pieces. I had not yet lived enough of its meaning to understand it fully—or to paint it truthfully.

Over the year that followed, Jesus began changing my understanding of joy entirely.

For so long, I think I confused joy with happiness—with feeling free, alive, fulfilled, understood, or satisfied by the circumstances around me. And little by little, Jesus began loosening my grip on all of it.

He asked me to choose Him when I would have chosen myself. To trust when I could not see where He was leading. To obey when His way was not the way I would have chosen. To open His Word when I felt like I did not have the time. To surrender the things I had convinced myself I needed in order to feel full.

It was not an easy process, and it certainly was not a painless one. But somewhere in the surrender, He began replacing what He was removing.

The more of myself I gave to Him, the more room there was for Him to fill.

And what He gave me was something I had spent years looking for without even realizing it: Peace.

Not a peace dependent upon life being easy or circumstances going my way, but something deeper. Something steady. A peace that remains when life hurts. A peace that sustains me, carries me, and somehow exists alongside the hard things instead of disappearing because of them.

And through that peace, I finally began to understand His joy. It is the joy of a soul that has stopped searching the world for what only Jesus can give. The joy that comes from surrender. From trust. From belonging completely to Him.

It is not a joy reserved for a certain season of life or for the people who somehow have everything figured out.

It is available to every one of us.

Christ does not ask us to manufacture it. He asks us to come to Him. To give Him our lives, allow Him into the places we protect most fiercely, and trust Him enough to let Him remove what was never meant to sustain us.

And then He fills the space.

This painting became possible only after Jesus first painted this truth into my own life.

JOY is the fruit of that undoing—and one of the most personal paintings I have ever created.
