DESCRIPTION

The beauty of the passion of Christ is that God gave His only son to suffer and die for our sake. Jesus willingly laid his life down for us to open the gates of Heaven, taking the grips of death off of us forever. He didn’t have too but he chose too out of perfect love. When we go through the sorrow and pain that life inevitably brings our way, we have a gift in Jesus’ crucifixion. We can unite our suffering to Christ on the cross — those moments where he was at the end of himself, and know that He not only understands but proves redemption to win.

Redemptive suffering is, in fact, one of my favorite things honored by the Catholic Church. When I learned the beauty of “offering it up” or “taking up my cross”, my entire life changed. My pains became a birth place for His glory.

Though incredibly difficult, there is so much beauty in suffering and Christ helps to show us that through the way he models His last moments on the cross.

Lord, into your crucified hands I commend my hardships, my losses, my pain. I ask you to unite them to your holy end. Cover me with a desire to use my suffering to know you deeper and rely on you more fully. Be with me now.

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabaktanei?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. - Matthew 27: 46, 50-51
