DESCRIPTION

This piece began a year ago.

At the time, I thought I was painting the Sacred Heart of Jesus — but in truth, I wasn’t yet ready to let Him look back at me.

I eventually put the painting away, unfinished and hidden in storage, because I struggled deeply with His gaze. There was something incredibly vulnerable about looking into the eyes of Christ and allowing myself to be fully seen by Him. A year later, I pulled the canvas back out and sat quietly with the image I had once started. Almost immediately, I felt God asking me to begin again — not just with the painting, but with the way I allowed Him to see me.

So I painted over nearly everything.

As this new image emerged, I felt the Lord speak very clearly to my heart:

You are seen. You are loved. You are admired by Me — and that is all you need.

That became the soul of this piece.

This painting was one of the most difficult works I have ever created — spiritually, emotionally, and technically. I wanted His face to feel alive with tenderness: not distant, not harsh, but deeply loving and personal. I wanted His eyes to carry the kind of gaze that stops you in your tracks — the kind that sees every wound, every fear, every hidden part of you, and loves you completely there.

Technically, the glowing illumination throughout the piece pushed me more than any painting before it. Creating light on a flat canvas is an intricate process that requires layer upon layer of unexpected color — cool tones beneath warmth, muted shadows beneath brilliance, subtle shifts that slowly create the illusion of radiance. Every inch of this painting was built with the intention of making Christ feel illuminated from within, as though His Sacred Heart itself is the source of the light.

More than anything, this piece became an invitation:

to stop hiding,

to let yourself be seen by God,

and to discover that His gaze is not one of condemnation —

but of overwhelming love.
